Large Format Tile & Porcelain Slab Installation

Large format tile and thin porcelain slabs give you fewer grout lines and a continuous, stone-like surface. They are also the least forgiving tiles to install: a floor or wall that is slightly out of flat shows up as uneven edges, known as lippage, and as hollow spots under the tile.

We specialize in these installations, including gauged porcelain tile panels and slabs (GPTP) on shower walls, feature walls and floors, using mechanical leveling systems, diamond wet-cutting and suction-frame handling.

Why large format tile needs a specialist

Industry standards treat any tile with an edge of 15 inches or more as large format, and they require a flatter surface for it: no more than 1/8 inch of variation in 10 feet. Most walls and floors are not that flat on their own, so the real work starts before the tile, with correcting the substrate.

Large tiles also need near-complete mortar contact underneath, especially in showers, and thin porcelain panels have to be handled with suction frames so they do not flex and crack. That combination of preparation, coverage and handling is what separates a flawless slab wall from one with uneven edges.
